FW: Energy/Sustainability Chapter for Master Plan

Hi All,

I sent out the Master Plan chapter to the Planning Board for their review before our meeting with them on 10/7.  Just wanted to share the response from Paul below.

Thank you, I will read it with interest---we just put a 103Kw Solar array on our Industrial building in Tewksbury Mass and are excited to see others working towards alternative energy. Anything we all can do to conserve our resources for future generations is more important than can be measured economically. Hopefully your work will help expedite some movement in our town and I hope other towns across America are doing likewise. We need to leave our children's children a Planet that can still sustain a comfortable life for all.

Hi Everyone,

The Atkinson Energy Committee, through a grant, worked with the RPC to develop a chapter for our Master Plan update which addresses energy conservation and efficiency and sustainability.  Attached is our rough draft of the chapter.  We are scheduled to meet with you at your workshop meeting on October 7th.  I am hoping that you will have time to review the chapter before the meeting so that we can have a productive discussion.

Many thanks for your time!

Master Plan Chapter

Hi All,

Did anyone have the chance to review the Master Plan chapter.  I'm sending it out today, as is, unless I hear something (anything) from someone.

P.S.  Judy - sorry I realized I didn't send this to you.

Library Available Nov 7th

Hi All,

Just got an email from Diane that the library is available on Sat, Nov. 7th.  I told her we'd take it.  Please let me know if you have any concerns regarding the date.  Judy, I know you can't attend, but we will need much help promoting this event if you don't mind helping that area.

Reminder

Hi Everyone,

Just a reminder - please send your comments on the Master Plan Chapter to me by tonight, if possible.

Our Atk Energy Event

Hi All,

Unfortunately, neither the library or the community center are available on either Sat from 10 -12.  We could use the CC on the 11/14 if we moved the event from 9-11. (There's a shower there at noon.)  Sunday, 11/15 is also open at the CC.  The library is open on Saturday, 10/31.

What do you think?

How much energy is NH using?

Where is it going?

How can we reduce the State's
energy consumption?

How has NH's climate changed?

What is the cost of that change?

What can we do?

Presentation on NH Climate Change Action Plan
Tuesday 9/29/09 7:00 PM Sandown Town Hall

"Here in New Hampshire, we ship in nearly 90% of all energy sources that drive our economy. We use these resources to generate electricity, heat our homes and businesses, and power our vehicles. Due to this reliance on external energy sources, New Hampshire is particularly vulnerable to fluctuations in the global energy markets. Our state is also heavily reliant on our rich natural resources to sustain our economy. These critical forest lands, rivers and lakes, and coastal areas are threatened by the current and future effects of climate change. As a result, there is real and growing concern within New Hampshire regarding the significant detrimental effects that our current pattern of energy use and a changing climate could have on our local economy and on the quality of our lives.

The NH Climate Change Action Plan, submitted to Governor Lynch in March 2009, presents a chance to address both of these vulnerabilities while creating new opportunities to grow the New Hampshire economy. Come hear Chris Skoglund, an Energy and Transportation Analyst with the NH Dept. of Environmental Services provide an overview of this Plan, which represents the thinking and recommendations of one of the largest, most diverse collections of leading New Hampshire citizens in many years."

Master Plan Chapter Review

Hi All,

Sorry I didn't get this out last night.  Conservation ran until 10 and I totally forgot when I got home.  Please feel free to add comments however you feel comfortable.  I turned on the track changes, so you can delete, add, reformat, etc. and we can still see old and new.  Feel free to add comments, etc.  If your suggestions are more general in nature.  Maybe send out an email note.

Michael M. and Michael J. - we agreed to read the draft and get changes back to me by Thursday.  We'll then send that copy out to the Planning Board for them to read.  I will ask to be put on their workshop schedule for the first Wednesday in October where we can make revisions as needed, etc.  We're also planning a talk at the library or community center (looking for a catchy title - help!) on saving energy at home.  Jim is going to talk to potential speakers today.

Looking forward to your suggestions on the draft ...

Michelle

FW: Energy Workshop

Jim and Mike,

Just wanted to share this feedback!  I'm assuming we will still meet, as scheduled on September 14th at 7pm.  Does this work for everyone?  I will have the CA-CP grant request prepared and we should start reviewing the Master Plan to prepare for meeting with the Planning Board.

Updated Version of Atkinson Energy Report

Hi All,

Due to the way this document was set up, I still found data calculation inconsistencies, so I am sending along an updated version for tonight.  We may continue to find things that we want to change - this is a living document, hopefully.  It should give us a great place to start our discussions on energy efficiency and conservation tonight.

See you all at 7.

Michelle

P.S.  I will bring copies for all department heads and others.
