Sustainability Discussion Groups

Hi All,

I'm sending this email to some of the most involved and active people I know in town to see if there might be interested in starting up a discussion group around a topic in sustainability.  The Lakes region group below encourages the development of discussion groups based on booklets from the Northwest Earth Institute.  I had ordered one of their booklets years ago with the intention of seeing if others would be interested, but alas, as many of you may I have found, my daughters' scheduled took precidence.  When I got an email on this, I decided I wanted to check it out and hopefully move forward this time!

If you are at all interested, take a look at this website and let me know if any of the discussion topics interest you.  If we find one or two that are of interest, perhaps we could start one up at the library or community center.  http://galacommunity.org/ (Scroll down on the homepage to "Study Circles")

Feel free to share this with others you feel might have an interest.  (I immediately thought of Robin Hernandez, but don't have her email address, so if one of you do, please forward this to her.)

Best,
Michelle

RE: Annual Tree Lighting Celebration

Hi Andrew,

The Atkinson Energy Commisssion would be happy to participate again this year.  Last year, we handed out wind-up LED flashlights and CFLs, supplied by Unitil.  I have copied the Commission and will have Jim Garrity check with Unitil to see what we might be able to share this year.

Thanks for including us.  This is a wonderful community event!

Hi Michelle,

I'm writing to see if you'll be with us at the Tree Lighting Celebration this year? It is November 29, 5:30 – 8:00pm. I think(?) you handed out green reusable bags last year, not sure, I'm new here!

I've attached a pdf for a bit more info.

Hope to hear from you!

Andrew

RE: Tomorrow's Meeting

Hi All,

Given a lack of items to discuss, I will cancel this evening's meeting.  If possible, please try to reach out to another Energy Organization (e.g. LEC newsletter), cc'ing the group to inquire about successful resident outreach programs for the next meeting.  (Tuesday, November 27th) so that we can work on plans for early 2013.

Michael, let us know if Mr. Pederson's class is unable to help us.  Perhaps we can all take a portion of the worksheet and track down poles.

Thanks for all of your efforts!

Michelle

All,

I have nothing new. As far as the street light data program goes, Mark Peterson (Timberlane teacher) ran into an obstacle about how to handle students driving around in their cars to collect street light data, whether it's on school time or personal time (used for a school project).  Liability was an issue. The item escalated to the Superintendent level for opinion which I think was going out for a legal opinion from district counsel.  I will inquire today.

Hi All,

Sorry for the last minute reminder ...

I wanted to check to see if we have work items for discussion tomorrow night.

  • We discussed checking with another town to get ideas for our future efforts.   I will admit that I have not done that yet.  Has anyone else?
  • Michael, are there updates you would like to share?
  • Ellyn, any thoughts on the Farmer's Markets?

If not, it might be best to cancel the meeting.
