Energy Fair Announcement

Hi All,

None of the AEC members are in town on Monday evening.

Would it be possible for one of you to announce the Atkinson Energy Committee's Energy Fair at the Kimball Library on Saturday, 11/7 from 9:30 until 12:30?  The fair has "rolling 10 minute presentations" (they repeat every hour) on energy saving tips for this winter, how to do an energy audit of your home and available funding from state and federal sources to lower the costs of your energy saving retrofits and renewable energy opportunities.  Unitil will distribute free compact fluorescents, while supplies last.

Residents of Atkinson and surrounding towns are invited to attend.  Attendees can drop in for a few minutes or stay for a half an hour and listen to presentations.

Many thanks!
Michelle

P.S. Barbara, if you have emails for surrounding town selectmen's offices, would you mind forwarding this?

FW: Button Up NH: Home Energy Savings Workshop

Hi All,

I spoke with Garry last week.  I'm thinking this would be great to be involved in.  I need to respond by Friday.  Let me know if you think we (the Atkinson Energy Committee) should participate.

Dear Energy Enthusiast,

This fall Button Up NH: Home Energy Savings Workshop is coming to 20 cities and towns in New Hampshire.

Based on our conversation, I think you would make an excellent organizer and hope you will strongly consider spearheading (in association with your Local Energy Committee) a Button Up NH workshop in your city or town. Attached is more information on Button Up NH; what we offer in terms of material and logistical support; and what we expect of our participating organizers and/or LECs.

In preparation, our staff will host two webinar-based information sessions (same session repeats second night) to help you (as a workshop organizer) get started. These webinar sessions will take place on Monday, Nov. 9 at 7pm and Thursday, Nov. 12 at 7pm and should last about 75 minutes. We ask that all organizations hoping to participate in Button Up NH have at least one representative attend one of these webinar sessions – both a phone and internet connection are necessary to participate.

If you would like to serve as an organizer (and I hope you do) please contact me, Garry Dow, Button Up NH coordinator, at gdow@cleanair-coolplanet.org, by the end of the week. This program has proven very successful in Vermont and together I have no doubt it will be equally successful in New Hampshire. I look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks,

Garry

Atkinson energy Fair

Paul,

Thank you for agreeing to present a 10 minute overview of home energy audits and key areas to consider at our Energy Fair on 11/7/09.  You will have the opportunity to make the presentation three times.  I have attached the fair announcement.  Please feel free to share it with any of your customers.  It's free to all.

Please plan on arriving at 9am to set up any hand-outs, etc.  The fair will open at 9:30.

Thanks,

FW: Your question

Hi All,

We did not get the grant for a comprehensive energy audit and policy review through Clean Air-Cool Planet.  I'm wondering whether the socio-economic factors mentioned here and in the the announcement, may have hurt us in scoring.  Hard to say.  Very disappointing though, since I was led to believe that we were on the "fast track" because of our previous efforts.

Dave, an important piece in applying for the municipal money through the state will be an energy audit.  Do we have money available anywhere to do one or would the geothermal vendor help us out?

I am also switching gears when it comes to the building other than Town Hall.  I will talk with Mary Downes and see if we can get audits done through some of their funding, without impacting our request for funds for the geothermal "multi-zone" upgrade.

Please keep me up to date on your thoughts ...

Michelle

Hi, Michelle,

Actually, that's a very difficult question about where an application might have fallen short, in this case. The Municipal Energy Assistance team had the challenge of considering a range of criteria and ensuring that communities representing diversity with regard to community size, geographical distribution, socio-economic factors, and previous efforts in community energy savings were represented in the pool of selected communities. Another factor considered was letters of support from different community stakeholders. Therefore, we had to choose among various deserving applications while also ensuring that we met a distribution of all of the factors mentioned.

As I mentioned before, we are keeping the applications of communities that were not selected in the first pool and hoping to reach more of them over the course of the project year. We will definitely be in communication if we find that we have the resources to include Atkinson once the first pool is moved forward.

Hi Sarah,

I'm part of the Atkinson Energy Committee.  Could you tell me where we fell short on the application?

Hello!

I am sorry for not getting back to your e-mail from last week. You were asking about announcements for the MEAP program. I didn't see which town you are inquiring from. However, I can tell you that we have selected our initial group of towns to begin the MEAP program and the are listed at nhenergy.org. Those towns that have not been selected at this time are all still very much under consideration to receive our support as we complete our work with the initial group of towns and free up our staff resources to work with more of the MEAP applicants. Please let me know if you have more questions. Thanks!

Hi Everyone,

Just a reminder that we are on the agenda at the Planning Board's workshop meeting tomorrow night at 7pm.  I sent the Energy/Sustainability chapter for the Master Plan to them a couple of weeks ago, so hopefully everyone will have reviewed it.  (I need to read it again to refresh my memory!)

See you at Town Hall!
