Many of the following emails look interesting and FREE, so we should try to listen in on a few. I will sign up for the July 12, ENergy Efficiency in Muni Operations and July 28th, (Community Behavior). Does anyone else want to commit to one or more? It might be nice to share useful ideas with the rest of the group via email after listening. If so, please copy all the ones you are signing up for.

July 12, 2011, 2:00-3:30 (EDT) - Energy Efficiency in Municipal Operations
Energy used by commercial and industrial buildings in the United States is responsible for nearly 50 percent of our national emissions of greenhouse gases (GHGs) that contribute to global climate change. Local governments can lead by example and achieve substantial energy cost savings across their facilities, demonstrate energy and environmental leadership, and raise public awareness of the benefits of energy efficiency to reduce GHG emissions. This Local Climate and Energy Webcast will provide an overview of how local governments can plan, implement, and evaluate projects to reduce the energy consumption and GHG emissions of their buildings. Federal tools and resources and local case studies will also be discussed. To register, visit:

***ENERGY STAR Webcasts
ENERGY STAR offers free online training to help you improve the energy performance of your organization. To register for any of these trainings or to see other upcoming ENERGY STAR trainings, visit: https://energystar.webex.com.
July 12, 2:00-3:15 PM (EDT) Benchmarking in Portfolio Manager for State and Local Governments
Sponsored by ENERGY STAR, this session will review EPA's online energy management tool, Portfolio Manager, which enables you to track the progress of energy efficiency efforts and compare the energy use of your buildings to that of peer buildings across the country. Attendees will learn how to measure and track energy use and carbon dioxide emission reductions to establish baseline energy use, prioritize investments, set goals, and track improvements over time. In addition, topics discussed will include best practices for bulk data management for new and existing accounts, real-life examples of organizations that have successfully benchmarked large portfolios of buildings, and helpful information on using Portfolio Manager for reporting and tracking for EECBG recipients. To register, visit: https://energystar.webex.com
July 21, 2:00-3:15 pm (EDT) Financing Energy Efficiency Upgrades with ENERGY STAR
Sponsored by ENERGY STAR, this webinar discusses how public sector organizations are improving energy efficiency with innovative solutions to financial barriers. Attendees will learn about financing projects in the public and private sectors, the basics of performance contracting, and how EPA's tools and resources can help you make the decision to improve your facilities now or later. To register, visit:
July 28, 12:00-1:30 PM (EDT) Energy Efficiency Program Sponsors: Scoring Energy Performance with EPA's Portfolio Manager
Sponsored by ENERGY STAR, this webinar is meant for energy efficiency program sponsors—regulated utilities; publicly owned utilities; energy delivery companies; national, regional, state, or local government entities; or organizations that administer energy efficiency programs promoting ENERGY STAR—interested in using EPA's Portfolio Manager. The training provides a high-level introductory overview of Portfolio Manager, enabling program sponsors to assist customers in using the tool. The training will provide an online demonstration of the benchmarking process, including creating a user account, identifying data requirements, managing and sharing information, and establishing an energy performance score. It will also provide an introduction to additional ENERGY STAR tools and resources that support program implementation in the C&I market. To register, visit:
***DOE Webcasts
July 26, 2:00-3:30 PM (EDT) Furthering Your Local Governments' Energy Efficiency: Part 1 – Getting Support from Local Leaders
Sponsored by DOE's Technical Assistant Program, this webcast will focus on useful and cost-effective strategies to engage local leaders in energy efficiency efforts. Chuck Clinton from the National Association of State Energy Officials (NASEO) and several grantee speakers will discuss these strategies, including developing a productive approach to addressing a county board or city council, demonstrating the impact of projects for job creation, measuring project cost savings and positive cash flow, highlighting green government benefits, and focusing on overall economic recovery and operational improvement. The webinar will provide examples of grantees that have successfully engaged local leaders and information on accessing additional support through nationwide stakeholder groups. To register, visit:

July 27, 1:00-2:30 PM (EDT) Exploring Power-Purchase Agreements – The Basics Part 1
Sponsored by DOE's Technical Assistance Program, and hosted by the Center for Climate Strategies, the first part of this webcast series will provide an introduction to power-purchase agreements (PPAs) as a way to leverage private capital to install large-scale solar energy. During the presentation, Darin Lowder, from Ballard Sphar, will discuss the resources required (personnel and funds), limitations to implementation, and benefits to the municipal PPA model. The webcast will feature two EECBG grantees that have implemented different sized PPAs and are saving energy and money on municipal energy generation. To register, visit:

July 28, 3:00-4:15 PM (EDT) Introduction to Using Community-wide Behavior Change Programs to Increase Energy Efficiency
Sponsored by DOE's Technical Assistance Program, and hosted by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, this webcast will discuss the impact and implementation of various programs that attempt to influence behavior change throughout the community by providing the end-user with information about their energy use. Karen Ehrhardt-Martinez (Renewable and Sustainable Energy Institute) will present her team's findings on feedback programs across the country, including:
- Types of feedback programs,
- Potential impacts on total energy use by program type,
- Contextual factors to consider when developing a feedback program, and
- Recommendations on developing an effective feedback program.
Gainesville Regional Utilities will delve into the details of its pilot feedback program in which it provides 40,000 residential customers with custom reports of their energy use. The reports are designed to help customers understand what actions they can take to reduce their energy use and the amount of annual savings that they could expect if they take the identified actions.
