For information about my book, A Space for Faith: The Colonial Meetinghouses of New England, or to order copies, please visit www.aspaceforfaith.com .

Fall was late in starting here in New Hampshire, but suddenly in the past week it has already snowed twice.  It's still a great place to live.

All the best for the upcoming holiday season,

-- Paul.

"Paul Wainwright's images of the structures of New England are more than images of structures, they are portraits. They capture the same nuances, details, mood and light that a portrait photographer would. His interiors are exceptional and capture the hand-crafted beauty along with the calming effect of these hallowed halls."
- Tom Jimison, Curator, Baldwin Photographic Gallery, MTSU

  • Recap of My Recent Exhibition in Turners Falls, Massachusetts:

My solo show this past summer at The Gallery at Hallmark in Turners Falls, Massachusetts, was beautifully installed and very well received.

A brief (2-minute) slideshow of the exhibit may be viewed by clicking Here.

The gallery is part of the Hallmark Institute of Photography, and I was invited back in October to deliver an all-afternoon lecture to the students about my photographic and artistic journey.

"There is a beauty to this collection of work that transcends time. The images capture a feeling and essence of these hushed yet very alive places. The careful design and craftsmanship of the photographs honor the stunning simplicity of early colonial architecture."
- Lisa Robinson, Executive Director, The Gallery at Hallmark

  • Other Planned Venues for This Exhibition:

In addition to the above exhibitions, a number of other museums and galleries have expressed an interest in this exhibit:

To inquire about bringing this exhibition to your venue, please: send e-mail to paul.

I am currently in discussions with an exhibition management company to manage and promote this show. Knowing about additional exhibition opportunities would be most welcome at this time.

"Paul Wainwright is one of the best traditional silver gelatin printers in the country."
- Tony Decaneas, founder of Panopticon Gallery in Boston

  • Yet Another Award for the Book:

In addition to the New England Book Festival Award for best photography/art book of 2010, and the Independent Publisher's 2011 Gold Medal for best northeast regional non-fiction book, which were announced earlier this year, my book A Space for Faith has received:

    • The American Association for State and Local History (AASLH) 2011 Leadership in History Award of Merit, which was presented at their annual meeting in Richmond, Virginia, in September.

"Step into a meetinghouse today, and you'll be struck by the quiet majesty of sweeping open space. Tranquility seems to radiate from plain painted woodwork, the high ceiling and gallery, and the sunshine beaming through plain glass windows."
- Victoria Welling, Early American Life Magazine

  • Continuing Media Praise:

    • New Hampshire Chronicle on WMUR TV re-broadcast the segment they did last year about me and my meetinghouse photography. If you missed it, it may be viewed by clicking Here.
    • A nice selection of my never-before-published color meetinghouse photographs was featured an article entitled We Gather Together in the October 2011 issue of Early American Life. The photos and article may be downloaded Here (5.2Mb PDF file).

"Paul Wainwright's haunting black-and-white images evoke a sense of how central these simple buildings were to the inhabitants of scattered [New England] villages and even larger towns and cities. They were physical manifestations of the spiritual, communal, and political heart of each community."
- Bill Hudgins, DAR's American Spirit Magazine

"Paul Wainwright's work continues in the tradition of Walker Evans. His fastidious attention to the technical perfection of the photographer's art enables him to produce an important work in the documentation of American material culture."
- James P. Hanlan, Professor of History, Worcester Polytechnic Institute
