The Atkinson Energy Commission held it second Energy Fair on Saturday, April 6th. Over 70 people attended the fair, which included vendors from the solar and geothermal industries, energy auditors, local energy companies and environmentally-focused, local program offerings. The fair gave the Commission the opportunity to share its work to make the Town more energy efficient with community members and to give attendees the opportunity to explore opportunites for their homes. (Note: The Commission collected contact information, along with interest in notification of future events by holding a Door prize drawing with prizes donated by participating vendors. Vendors were not charged for their table, but were asked to bring small give-ways for each attendee or a door prize.)
Commission member Michael Mascola has been working with Timberland Regional HIgh School students and staff to evaluate Atkinson's street lighting in order to review opportunities to reduce energy use. The students and their teacher, Mark Pederson, loaded street light data gathered via GPS, along with lighting fixture types into ArcGIS software and will be making recommendations to the Commission and Atkinson Selectmen later this month.
Finally, Atkinson's Town Administrator continues to use the recommendations from the Energy Audit funded through an ARRA grant administered by the Office of Energy and Planning and TRC. The report has been tremendously valuable in focusing departments on budgeting for initiatives to increase energy efficiency.
Thanks Denise!
