In keeping with the spirit and intent of New Hampshire's Right-to-Know Law RSA 91-A, this blog is simply a repository of communications related to the Atkinson Energy Efficiency Committee. It will include copies of emails between members, meeting minutes of public meetings, and other documents which the Committee feels should be available to the public.

Memorial Day parade

I spoke with Kevin Landry from the Atkinson Fire Department. He said that the Memorial Day parade is at 10am this year. He was unsure if the AFD was going to do their traditional cookout.

 

As far a recycling at the cookouts in the past….. I asked Kevin Landry if the AFD has recycled its cans and bottles from its past cookouts. He said he didn't think so.

I called Norkio, she is in Foxwoods with the Seniors. I called Patti Mangini and she is in Florida. I will ask both of these ladies tomorrow about more of the Memorial day events/times.

Brochure aims to reverse recycling decline

HAMPSTEAD — The Solid Waste Committee wants to get the recycling word out to residents and they've found one way to do it.

The committee agreed to spend $535 to have 4,300 brochures printed and inserted into a free publication delivered to Hampstead homes.

The brochure covers information on curbside-trash and recycling pickup, Kent Farm Transfer Station information and what can be dropped off at the town garage.

Committee member Joe Tabi said it would be money well spent to get this information into the hands of every household in Hampstead. He said recycling numbers, for whatever reason, have been decreasing. He and the other members hope with more information, residents will be reverse the trend.

The committee also has solicited the help of Middle School students, under the guidance of teacher Kathe Cussen, to make a video about recycling.

In addition, committee member Bob Nugent suggested the Cable Committee be asked if they would make a video of recycling at the town garage and possibly even do a video of what goes on at the transfer station. These could all be aired on the town cable channel as well as used at events to get the message out.

RE: Monday's Meeting

I will be unable to attend Monday's meeting (out of state for business). Also, there are some interesting energy-related bills being debated in the Legislature that could help communities make a difference. I'll let you know if they survive and in what form... stay tuned.

Roadside Clean-up

Atkinson's roadside clean-up will be on April 19th.  Patti and Noriko will hand out bags and t-shirts from 8 - 10 am at the Community Center. 
Clean-up can be done anytime during the week.  They usually ask you to sign up for a road or section of a road.  They also forms for students who need to show evidence of community service work.
 
Please pass the word along (friends, youth groups, organizations you belong to, etc.) - it would be great to have lots of people out to make a statement that we care about our town!
